L3Harris Technologies (NYSE: LHX) has finalized the Preliminary Design Review (PDR) for 18 cutting-edge space vehicles, marking a key step in its work on the Space Development Agency's (SDA) Tranche 2 Tracking Layer program.

The review confirmed that the L3Harris vehicles meet all SDA requirements, incorporating advanced technology to detect, track, and target hypersonic threats.

"L3Harris is committed to supporting SDA's vision of a multi-layered missile tracking architecture with the space-based capabilities needed to track threats in real time," said Ed Zoiss, President of Space and Airborne Systems at L3Harris. "We completed the PDR milestone in just 11 months and have already received key flight subsystems for our Tranche 2 vehicles, which will provide SDA with an innovative solution against a continually evolving threat."

In January 2024, L3Harris secured an SDA contract to design and produce 18 satellites equipped with infrared payloads for the Tranche 2 Tracking Layer. These satellites are integral to the agency's Proliferated Warfighter Space Architecture (PWSA), a low Earth orbit constellation offering near-global missile warning, tracking, and defense capabilities.

L3Harris has been a significant contributor to SDA's initiatives, delivering 38 satellites across Tranche 0, Tranche 1, and Tranche 2 programs. Its Tranche 0 satellites are already operational. Leveraging its Trusted Disruptor strategy, L3Harris supports both offensive and defensive hypersonics systems through its portfolio, which includes technologies like air-breathing scramjet engines, ramjets, solid rocket motors, warheads, and other missile-related solutions.
