GeoEye Gets More Money From US
Dulles VA (SPX) Jun 06, 2008 GeoEye, Inc. a provider of satellite, aerial and geospatial information, announced new awards totaling $22 million to supply geospatial products and related services. Under this award GeoEye will provide the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency (NGA) a significant amount of value-added, imagery-based geospatial-intelligence products including the company's airport mapping product line. Imagery processing and production will be performed at GeoEye's advanced imagery processing centers located in St. Louis, Mo. and Thornton, Colo. These awards are in addition to the task order for imagery purchases the company received from NGA last fall. Bill Wilt, GeoEye's vice president of North American Sales commented, "Our high-resolution imagery and products provide a critical supplement to the NGA for updating its mapping databases with highly accurate, broad-area coverage. We continue to work with NGA to harmonize the ordering process and are gratified that NGA has issued a request for proposal to us regarding the creation of a service level agreement." Last month, the company announced an August 22, 2008 launch date for its next-generation, earth-imaging satellite GeoEye-1. Once launched, it will be the world's highest resolution commercial earth-imaging satellite. GeoEye-1 will be able to collect images with a ground resolution of 0.41-meters or 16 inches in the panchromatic, or black-and-white mode, and collect multispectral, or color imagery, at 1.65-meter resolution. The first stage of the United Launch Alliance Delta II launch vehicle has already arrived at Vandenberg Air Force Base, Calif. EarthCARE Earthcare Satellite Contract Signed Berlin, Germany (SPX) Jun 06, 2008 The European Space Agency and Astrium GmbH has signed a contract worth 263 million euros to provide the EarthCARE satellite, the sixth Earth Explorer mission of ESA's Living Planet Programme. As prime contractor, Astrium GmbH is responsible for the satellite's design, development and integration. |
