The popular Angry Birds game is warping into a Star Wars universe in a new edition featuring the movies' heroes and villains, the game's Finnish developer says. Game company Rovio said the new game for iOS, Android and computers will see the birds square off against the pigs in the familiar "Star Wars" galaxy, CNET reported Monday. In Angry Birds Star Wars, the title birds will assume the personalities of intrepid heroes like Luke Skywalker, Princess Leia and Han Solo while the evil piggies have gone over to the dark side, taking on the roles of Darth Vader and other galactic villains. Rovio and Lucasfilm are partnering on the project. "You will see a pig-esque Vader and pig-esque stormtroopers," Lucasfilm marketing Vice President Paul Southern told USA Today. Luke Skywalker's home world, Tatooine, and the ice planet, Hoth, will make appearances in the game. U.S. toy giant Hasbro says it made a deal with LucasFilm to manufacture and sell products based on the "Star Wars" edition of "Angry Birds." The new product line from Hasbro will start rolling out next month. "We've developed a selection of innovative toys and games featuring 'Angry Birds Star Wars' that delivers new ways to play for fans of these two great franchises," John Frascotti, chief marketing officer for Hasbro, said in a statement Monday. "We're proud of our heritage of delivering 'Star Wars' toys that have entertained generations of kids and we're excited to offer fans of both 'Star Wars' and 'Angry Birds' the opportunity to experience their favorite characters and icons in exhilarating new ways."
