China's space station plan delayed for 'technical reasons'
Beijing (AFP) March 3, 2010
China has postponed the next step in its ambitious space station programme until 2011 for technical reasons, state media said Wednesday. US announces two-year delay in F-35 fighter program
Washington (AFP) March 2, 2010
The US Air Force announced Tuesday a two-year delay in the production of its new F-35 stealth fighter, touted as the future of the American air fleet. Secretary of the Air Force Michael Donley, the civilian head of the department, told reporters that the Joint Strike Fighter, scheduled for use by 2013, would now not be ready until the end of 2015. "I do think we're going to have a slip" ... more

Northrop Grumman And USAF Set To Resolve Critical B-2 Sustainment Issue
Palmdale CA (SPX) Mar 04, 2010
Northrop Grumman and the U.S. Air Force hope to soon resolve, once and for all, a technical issue that's challenged engineers and maintainers of the nation's fleet of B-2 stealth bombers for more than 20 years: cracking in the B-2's aft deck, a metallic panel on the bomber's upper surface that shields its composite airframe from the heat of engine exhaust. The team has just completed a pap ... more

Hopes fade for Uganda landslide survivors: officials
Kampala (AFP) March 3, 2010
Hopes were fading Wednesday of finding survivors of a landslide in eastern Uganda that has killed at least 80 people and left 300 missing, officials and rescue workers said. Relentless rain, steep terrain and a lack of adequate equipment made it difficult to organise an efficient rescue effort two days after a mudslide engulfed entire communities on the slopes of Mount Elgon. "We have found some cows, and some remains of houses, but we have not found a body since morning," Kevin Nabtua, the head ... read more
