New Consultation Into UK Civil Space Policy
London, UK (SPX) Jan 09, 2007 A wide-ranging public consultation on the UK's new civil space strategy was launched today by Science and Innovation Minister Malcolm Wicks. Responses to the three-month consultation will help inform the development of space policy for 2007-10 on issues including maximising wealth creation from space, promoting excellent science and developing space-related education activities for young people. Mr Wicks said: "We must inspire children to become our future world-beating scientists and Nobel Prize winners. Young people now are being entranced by Dr. Who and electronic games consoles just like the previous generation was by R2D2 and C3PO. Space is a great way to excite children about the importance of British science. "This is a significant time for UK's civil space activities. Space activities globally are developing rapidly and making exciting contributions in many crucial arenas. The UK space sector is expanding, with a turnover of pound4.8bn last year and employing directly a highly skilled workforce of over 16,000 people. Britain excels in developing small satellites and in robotics. "We need to build on this UK success story so we can maximise the benefits to UK citizens and the UK economy. Space is the great adventure of the coming millennium. This consultation offers everyone the opportunity to have a say and help shape the new space strategy." The consultation will be of particular interest to members of the UK space industry, UK space academia, other Government Departments which are current or potential users of space applications, and the general public with an interest in UK space policy. The consultation has been launched on the BNSC website www.bnsc.gov.uk/content.aspx?nid=6180 and via email to stakeholders. The consultation will be open for 12 weeks and will close on 2 April 2007. Intelsat Announces Proposed Offering Of Senior Notes And Repayment Of Bridge Loan
Pembroke, Bermuda (SPX) Jan 09, 2007Intelsat has announced that its wholly-owned subsidiary, Intelsat, intends to offer approximately $600 million of senior notes due 2015. The net proceeds from the offering will be used, together with cash on hand, to repay Intelsat outstanding $600 million senior unsecured bridge loan. The notes referred to above will be offered to qualified institutional buyers under Rule 144A and to persons outside the United States under Regulation S. |
