Pembroke, Bermuda (SPX) May 13, 2008 Intelsat has announced that its annual Global Telecommunications Meeting (GTM) held in Washington, D.C., 2-5 June, at the Marriott Wardman Park Hotel, will expand beyond carrier-oriented transaction services to a world telecommunications summit addressing many of the most pressing issues faced by today's global corporate network operators, carriers and governments. For the past 34 years GTM, presented by Intelsat, has brought together the world's communications companies-over 800 corporations and organizations from every continent-for an unparalleled knowledge sharing and bilateral trading forum. This year, the global meeting will provide compelling and relevant content addressing the business and social issues affecting the telecom industry and the world, in addition to the superior networking environment that attendees have come to expect. GTM 2008 will focus on bringing government, technology and industry together to connect the unconnected. Dr. Hamadoun Toure, Secretary-General of the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) and champion of the Connect the World initiative, will be the featured keynote speaker. The ITU is working with information and communication technology (ICT) partners to mobilize the human, financial and technical resources required to expand the development of ICT infrastructure, connectivity and access.
Strategic Alliance with ITU for 'Connect the World' - 3G Licenses with Strings Attached? How regulators are tying service requirements to spectrum - Extending the Reach of the Triple and Quad Play: Serving rural areas and developing economies - Right Technology, Right Network: Case study showcasing hybrid use of fiber and satellite - DTH and IPTV: The path to new video and content services or a new distraction? "For over one billion people around the world, a simple telephone call remains out of reach," said Dr. Toure. "ITU's multi-stakeholder Connect the World initiative is generating momentum, and Intelsat's GTM is the perfect forum at which telecommunications and satellite industry heavy hitters will address the benefits of ICT to people everywhere, including those in the most remote regions of the world. This is a not-to-be-missed business opportunity leading to a win-win situation for all."
Leading Publications Join GTM to Focus Content on Telecom's Growth Opportunities These additional key tracks, moderated by top editors of Business Week and Space News, will focus on: - New Strategies for International Corporate Data Networks - The Modern Global Telecom Carrier: Success Amidst the Turmoil - Delivering Government Services in the Modern Communications Theater "For more than three decades, the GTM has been the telecom industry's most efficient forum for establishing or renewing professional relationships. The value of business transacted at GTM over this period can be estimated in the hundreds of millions-if not billions of dollars," said Stephen Spengler, Intelsat's Executive Vice President, Sales amd Marketing. "It's our intent that our expanded GTM will bring that same level of efficiency to the discussion of the social and business issues-and the corresponding commercial solutions-that will drive telecom sector growth in the coming years."
Connect the World By showcasing current development efforts, tracking progress and identifying both pressing needs as well as opportunities for collaboration, Connect the World will help generate the momentum required to "connect the unconnected by 2015."
