India plans to buy nearly 130 Su-30 fighter jets from Russia until 2012. The total number of the Su-30 fighter jets in the Indian air forces will reach 270, one of the chiefs of the Rosoboronexport Agency, Sergei Kornev, said. Kornev will lead the Rosoboronexport delegation at the China International Aviation and Aerospace Exhibition, also known as Airshow China -2012 that will open in Zhuhai on November 13th. The draft contract has already been submitted to the Indian side for approval. The first shipment of the Su-30 fighter jets arrived in India in 1996.
Russia should retain high positions in aircraft manufacturing - Medvedev Russia's high positions among the global aircraft manufacturers should be envisaged by the government's aircraft industry development program for the period until 2025, Medvedev said adding that civil aviation development should be an issue of primary concern. According to Dmitry Medvedev, the rapid ageing of the Russian aircraft fleet, particularly regional aircraft, makes it imperative for domestic manufacturers to saturate the Russian market with competitive aviation technology.
